We have co-developed with Accenture GmbH a new line of Class 2 and 3 lithium-ion fire containment bags. We are working hard to bring these new "Made In The USA" containment bags to market soon and we're proud Brimstone will be the only US based company authorized to sell them.
This exciting new product line is a CRYSTAL CABINS AWARD WINNER at the 2024 Aircraft Interiors Expo (#AIX2024).
Understanding the Class 2 and Class 3 ratings:
Class 2/ 100Wh: Performance Level 1 (total containment) - Our product provided full containment of a 100 Wh lithium-ion battery in thermal runaway which means that all smoke, fire, and debris was 100% contained with low exterior surface temperatures.
(100 Wh is the maximum capacity allowed on board an aircraft without special permission.)
Class 3/ 160Wh: Performance Level 1 (total containment) - Our product provided full containment of a 160 Wh lithium-ion battery in thermal runaway which means that all smoke, fire, and debris was 100% contained with low exterior surface temperatures.
(160 Wh is the absolute maximum capacity allowed on board an aircraft.)
Proven Effectiveness!
The International Aircraft Materials & Systems Forum Meeting was held April 16-18, 2024 in Bremen, Germany, where the FAA presented important findings. They tested six different containment products for portable electronic devices, two of which were our UL 5800 Class 2 and Class 3 systems. Our containment kits (represented as Manufacturer B) were the only products to demonstrate 100% containment of smoke, flame, and debris.

*Note: These FAA tests were conducted using our initial prototypes. Improvements were made ahead of our UL tests, where they formally verified that the exterior of the bags never exceeded temperatures above 183 F / 84 C (these max temps occurred on the exterior underside of the bag while the top exterior max temps never exceeded 131 F / 55 C).
